Light My Fire!
A Call to Burn Bright for Christ
After the intensity of Easter, this Sunday’s message was a powerful reminder that we’re not just called to bask in the light of Jesus—we’re called to carry it. The sermon titled "Light My Fire!" explored three key meanings of light—illumination, weightlessness, and flame—all pointing to one truth: God has lit a fire in us, and it’s time to let it burn.
1. Light That Illuminates
From Genesis to Revelation, light represents the very nature of God. “Let there be light” wasn’t just about flipping on a cosmic switch—it was about creating life, vision, and purpose. God is light, and in Him there is no darkness at all (1 John 1:5). Jesus tells us in Matthew 5 that we are the light of the world—called to shine, not hide. Like the moon reflects the sun, we reflect God’s light to those in the dark.
2. Light as in Not Heavy
We often carry the burdens of sin, shame, and struggle. But Jesus says His yoke is easy and His burden is light (Matthew 11:28–30). When we surrender our burdens at the cross, we find the strength to keep going, even through trials. As Paul wrote in 2 Corinthians 4, our troubles are “light and momentary” compared to the eternal glory awaiting us.
3. Light That Ignites
A single flame can spark a wildfire and God wants to use our lives to spread His fire. The Holy Spirit came as tongues of fire at Pentecost (Acts 2), and that flame still burns today in every believer. We’re not just called to be light, but to spread it. Jude 1 says we are to “snatch others from the fire,” bringing light and rescue to a world that’s burning.
Bottom Line
A blacksmith refines metal in fire, likewise God shapes us through heat and pressure. And at the end of it all, our works will be tested by fire (1 Corinthians 3). Only things built on Christ will last.
So—how’s your fire? Is it flickering? Smoldering? Or burning bright like a searchlight? Wherever you're at, the challenge is clear: fan the flame. Get enthusiastic. Let God light your fire—and let it shine.
